What does duty cycle mean?

It’s how hard a motor can work before it needs a break. Some manufacturers give it as a number of operations a day, where one operation is one open and one close. ET Nice gives it as a percentage of each hour: a 25% motor can run for up to 15 minutes in every hour and stands idle for the rest, which lets the motor cool and the battery recharge. A 98% motor runs straight off mains power, with the battery as back-up, so it can work almost nonstop. That suits busy estates and complexes.

These figures are rated for a gate at the motor’s maximum weight, so a lighter gate will do better.

ET gate motors are made in South Africa by Nice (formerly ET Systems) and fitted on thousands of local gates. We supply, install and repair the current Drive range and service the older ET 500 and ET 1000.

The Drive range

  • ET Drive 300 and 500: for home sliding gates up to 300kg and 500kg. Rated at a 25% duty cycle, so up to about 15 minutes of running in every hour.
  • ET Drive 600 and 1000: run straight off mains power with the battery as back-up, rated at a 98% duty cycle, so they can work almost nonstop. Good for complexes and businesses.

Every Drive motor has an ET-Blu Mix rolling-code receiver built in, and works with ET Blue and Blu Mix remotes.
