What does duty cycle mean?
It’s how hard a motor can work before it needs a break. Some manufacturers give it as a number of operations a day, where one operation is one open and one close. ET Nice gives it as a percentage of each hour: a 25% motor can run for up to 15 minutes in every hour and stands idle for the rest, which lets the motor cool and the battery recharge. A 98% motor runs straight off mains power, with the battery as back-up, so it can work almost nonstop. That suits busy estates and complexes.
These figures are rated for a gate at the motor’s maximum weight, so a lighter gate will do better.

How they're built
A 24V DC motor drives a maintenance-free chain through a worm gear with a bronze gear inside, which is quieter and longer-lasting than an all-steel gearbox. The motor runs off its battery, so the door keeps working through load shedding.
